Interesting point Les made about the Japanese engines being designed round different oil spec. I've done some checking, and it's true. the engines are quite different to American and British models. for one thing they run the oil a lot hotter and the rings are set lower on the pistons.
A lot of people agree with Les, different engines require different oil.
I've started a new thread about low ash oil and posted what I've learnt so far.
