  • Fuel system issues

Hi, got fuel system problem which i'm hoping someone can help me trouble shoot...

Basically, surf wont start unless I remove hose from fuel filter and poor diesel dirrectly into the injectors. Then she will start no problem UNLESS i wait more than 20minutes or so. If I leave it any longer, she wont start so I have to repeat the process of pouring dirrect into the injectors.

When removing the injector hose (from fuel filter) I can see there is no diesel in it.

So whats happening?! Thanks for reading

pump the primer to see if it goes hard.If it don't then it's knackered and need replacing.Make sure fuel lines are secured with decent jubilee clips. Its sounding as if air is getting sucked in.
When you release the fuel filler cap does it hiss or make a noise. If so the breather is blocked. There is a little breather on top of the tank or drill a tiny hole through the filler cap

Thanks. Im thinking all of the above!

Primer pump does seem to go hard. Infact, a while back it was complete opposite: was staying hard even when the car was off....

Question: should the primmer pump squirt fuel when the out hose is off? Cos it doesnt... I will try pick one up second hand this weekend.

Where exactly is the breather hose? How do I access it?

Is there a filter in the fuel tank? A mate of of mine reckons there is and it could be blocked...

      Thanks

the breather is litterally on top of the tank.Theres no filters in the tank at all.
It should squirt fuel out when pumped.Just make sure its a decent one if you buy 2nd hand.If it comes to it then buy one from Terry who advertises on the top right of the banner

No the fuel pickup pipe inside the tank usually has a plastic gauze filter on the end. Usually means dropping the tank to replace though. Well on a KZj70 you have to drop the tank as only the sender can be accessed from inside the boot inspection panel.

My 1993 KZN130 DOES have a gauze filter in the tank on the pick-up line, and you DO have to drop the tank to gain access (which is fine, as if the filter is blocked, the tank will probably need a bit of a clean out too). I would think the smaller engines would have the same.
