  • AC Fan - The one in front of the Radiator

I know that many people have had a problem with the AC fan in front of the radiator just like me. I solved the problem in a classic way. I ripped the bugger out and replaced it with an new one out of a mazda we had in the yard for cut-up practice.
The whole wiring system for the fan was suspect so I built a new controller for it too.
The fan is now triggered by a number of inputs.
    1. The aircon being turned on
    2. The thermo switch in the t-stat housing going open
    3. The manual switch on the dash being pressed, this is an auto reseting system.
    4. A digital thermo switch ( being built ) that will fit in the new controller housing.
So basically if anything happens under the bonnet then the fan will come on!
I can rest easy for the summer particularly as I have just had the radiator rebuilt.
    Happy cool motoring !!

I thought that fan was for additional (to the viscous fan) radiator cooling only?
My understanding was that the air con uses another rad which is underneath the front of the truck with two of its own electrical fans.

It is on the auto box surf

It does but only on the auto box surf the manual gear boxed surf has the air con rad in front of the normal rad.

the 3.0 ltr must be slightly different to the 2.4 then coz the a/c rad and fan are mounted in front of the engine rad. Fan only operates for the a/c temp.

          cheers

That is correct ! But my 2.4 SURF has the aircon rad behind the main radiator all other 2.4's ive seen are at the bottom with 2 fans attached
