  • Need info about temp sender on block

I've been having a lot of trouble with my truck as of late. Currently experiencing a starting problem. I've been checking everything I can think of. I found what looked like a broken wire as I was trying to inspect my temp sender on the block (above starter). I thought this must be an issue but remembered seeing that when I did my engine rebuild a couple years ago so it is probably not my new problem. I did find the temp sender I was looking for and it is clearly broken, this "wire" is actually a chunk of the sender. I'm just wondering what problems this broken sender could cause. I plan to replace it anyway so I would also like to know if anyone has the part number for it or preferably if anyone knows what other Toyotas used the same sensor? I'm in Canada so when I walk into the parts store looking for diesel Toyota parts you get the look. I usually need to give them a cross referenced part number.

EDIT: My phone had died so I couldn't take a picture. but If anyone is confused as to which sender I want, it is the one Nev has circled in this thread: http://hiluxsurf.co.uk/showthread.ph...erature+sender

No idea how complex these ECU's are but in modern vehicles generally the coolant temp sensor feedback is used during startup, idle, fueling, timing, boost control and as a safety to cut engine power in the event of overheating.
    Now it's time to play!

Mine has been broken for quite some time. Now that I'm having starting problems I'm just checking out every possible cause. Does any have a part number or another Toyota I could cross reference it off of?

That is for non-efi I believe. I have bought a new sensor today. For future reference the Toyota part number is 89422-35010. The price I was given was $84 at the dealer. I went to a parts store and got a cross referenced sensor. It's a Beckarnley brand, part number 158-0421. I paid about $30. I'm from Canada so this may help some other Canadians if they ever need this sensor.
