  • temperature problem

I ve recently changed my cylinder head gasket on a 2.4 turbo dieseal with a reconditioned cylinder head. The problem now is if i drive more than 100km/h about 60 miles/h, the turbo light on the dash board will light up of which that is normal. but the temperature will also start to rise above the half mark. Anyone who might have an idea what maybe causing this. As the Temperature stays normal when driving below 80km/h.

the radiator could be blocked,is there high mileage on your surf?,usually its a blockage or restriction somewhere that causes this

Thanks for your response, but I had my radiator steam blown before i fitted it back. Maybe or I'm thinking the turbo could be causing this.

          hi guffin
same problem i had after changing my 2.4lte head, and lukly i fixed it.
your problem is that their is a leak between the cyliders to the coolant ,check the pressure at about 3000 rev thats when the pressure passes to the coolant, if yes then sorry you have to open the head again and has to be refaced for the head and the block to sit tight together, or the head guskit is no good. try this and tell us what you found.

          cheers all

You either need to get hold of a pressure tester or get a garage that has one to do it for you. The testers run to about 100 quid.

              Cheers

This may be a problem if loosing coolant but there is no mention of that.

Are you loosing any coolant through the expansion tank.If not then water pump may be the problem or thermostat not opening fully and restricting flow.

Pressure test are done by removing the radiator cap and replacing with an adapter with a gauge attached. The engine is then run at different revs and this will show if cooling system is being over pressurised from a cracked head or faulty gasket.

the radiator cores could be blocked (where the water from the engine runs thru the radiator).you could check by taking the radiator out and pouring water thru it and see how fast the water is flowing out.(is it coming out at the same speed you are putting it in,it should)
thermostat could be giving trouble as well
replace thermostat and see if it solves the problem (very cheap to replace)

Pull the header tank lid, and leave it out, then let the motor run on idle up or higher. Most case but the smallest leaks and it will pump coolant out of the rad overflow pipe after 5 mins or so (as long as you have coolent in the rad).

(assuming you've replaced the rad cap/stat or teated them.)
