  • Batteries and Glow plugs

Was just wondering where the best place to get a new set of glow plugs from would be?

I have a set of new glow plugs but they are taller (Longer) than the ones in there now (they came with the Surf when I bought it). Roughtrax glow plugs are approx £40, while on ebay they can be bought for about £20, is it worth paying twice as much?

I have twin batteries and as I have no idea how old they are, if I was to replace them, what's the best size to go for. Mine are both 70ah at present but I can't find a CCA rating anywhere on either of them. What do you all use / what would be the best size to go for?

    Hi

Bosch duratherms are supposed to be the best plugs you can get according to diesel specialists, don't buy ebay ones as there are a lot of fakes about.

Try http://www.helptoday.co.uk/ call them and have a chat with them and they should be able to sort you out. You can always go with the oem denso ones.

I managed to get a 110 amp hour battery out of my merc into the battery compartment of my old surf. It was a squeeze but fitted in the end. Have a look at carparts4less.co.uk (same company as eurocarparts but cheaper) I got bosch ones with 4 year warranty for about £134 for the pair.
    l'm FAME-ous!

Get Bosch if you can. I never have a problem with them. GPT223 is the part number they go by here.

          Check sizes here -

The Bosch ones are hard to find over here Nev - I looked everywhere for a set for my 2.4 but ended up buying NGK instead. They were fine.

I posted a glow plug part number cross reference here .

Have heard from others that the NGK are ok. Just never used them myself. Now the eBay ones are another story. Most of them are junk.

                Thanks guy's, I'll try the NGK one's

Symptoms of the problem are, it won't start at all from cold. Turns over no problem, sounds like it's coughing and trying to start but just won't. If you use easy start, it fires right up and then run's like a dream, revs ok, ticks over great (sounds good on idle), leave it to warm up and then turn it off, leave it for a few minutes, try it again and it fires right up again.
I figure it can only be the glow plugs.

Check that your plugs are getting power before buying new ones.
