  • Power Steering Box Seal Kit

    Hey guys,

Hilux Surf SSR-X 1991 LN130 Turbo Diesel Automatic

Got a leak coming from the bottom of the power steering box.
(bottom of the "square joined section" that has bolts in each corner)

It looks tricky to get in there and i may have to remove other things.
How tricky are we talking to extract the box and replace the seals?
I like to do most things myself but i've never taken belts off etc... im not that good at mechanics, more novice.
I know nothing about bleeding these either so any diagrams etc would help (ive searched on here and the net for one without luck).

I see seal replacement kits on eBay for $105.00 which beats the cost of a new one !

    eww - ok so update

    http://toyotasurf.asn.au/forum/viewtopic.php?p=165815

theres a site that describes the seal replacement method with part numbers and diagrams - looks way too tricky for me if these guys are having trouble with it, i may just buy a 2nd hand box and put it in.

      Wtf ?

      Hi guys,

Are all the power steering boxes the same for the LN130's ????
I ordered one from a wreckers and he is adamant it's the right one, however when i matched it up to mine the pitman arm was the wrong shape and the box itself only had 2 mounting brackets whereas mine has 3.

I sent it back but today he called me saying i must be mistaken as the one i sent back has 3 mounting brackets and blah blah blah....

      I don't know what's going on !!!!! Is there a difference between LN130's and 4runner boxes?
Or does the 1991 Hilux Surf SSR-X Auto 2.4 Turbo Diesel (my car) have something different to all the rest?

all i know is there is some differences on the 2nd generation, before and after the face lift.
        i changed a steering box from a 2.4. to a 3l 2nd gen. and no problems.
so it might be the difference of the face lift (different boxes)

There are a couple of different part numbers. Is yours before or after the 8/'91. Model and Frame number will help.

After the 8/'91 they are the same as the KZN130.
