check the 4 battery terminal leads are all clean and earth leads and see if that makes a difference. If not then it will sound like the alternator os buggared

I'd keep checking first. If the batteries were very, very flat you can expect your readings to rise as the batteries take some charge on board.

I would have thought you wouldn't even see 12v if the alternator wasn't working at all and you'd just jumped the motor from dead flat.

ok had another look today both baterys fully charged overnight, put tester back on says 12.80 now,so stoped car cleaned all the + and - conectours up, then found that the alternator belt is slighty loose, got it a little tighter with the ajuster but still not fully tight cant find were the altonator bolts on to slackern it off and pull belt tighter .
also found 3 wires to a plug that look like there off the altonator but have been cut, there red black and id say whight but look more pinkish lol

When my alternator went the dash on my truck lit up like a christmas tree too, but it was accompanied by an annoying continuous tone. If you are getting the same I would suggest that your alternator was toast.....I'm no expert though.

            Cheers,

Clean all of the connections on the alternator and check the starter motor connections too, wouldnt have thought you would get 13.20 if the alt were dead.
well, that was a bad idea!

i did see there was a wire plug near the alternator thats like a tryangle shape but cant see if it fits any were and the wires from the plug are blanked off there are 3 wires that are colours red then a black wire next to it and a white wire below them , is this any thing to do with it ?
