  • auto box drives sweet then not drive!

hi guys not sure if this has been covered b4, ive searched forum and cant find anything like it
basically i bought the surf and shes been sweet did my weekly fluid check and there seemed to be milkshake in the box so drained it filled it all seemed fine until i got a hissing like chuffing sound from the box and then lost drive! checked the fluid milkshake again so got the rad checked found it wasnt at fault so had it rebuild with a new core as you do flushed the gearbox and pipes as best i could filled it got it back on the road sweet as a nut again thinking its fine and checking it everday i thought it was sorted until today running fine then had the hissing back then no drive now i found if i park up for 20 mins start again i have full drive and no problem unless it hisses again then i get same problem no drive again does anyone know where this water is mixing??? or wether its just a case of flush and try again????

The only place on a standard Surf where the is any water/atf crossover will be in the bottom of the rad.

How much fluid did you initially drain out?

How much did you use to flush the auto box?

Any "milkshake" will be from water contamination.

Have you properly checked the atf level ? ie engine upto temp, parked on the flat engine running cycling thro' gears then checking level?

I would flush the box again perhaps using the "two bucket method"

        and cross your fingers

water and auto gear boxes are not the best of bed fellows

        Good luck.
