Are 4runner tie rods the same in the surf? (1992)

    Are 4runner tie rods the same in the surf? (1992)

    So I took my surf into get an alignment done and they said the tie rods were so seized they couldn't do it. They said there was no play in them though so I should be fine to drive it, but my tires may wear some (I took it for the alignment in the first place because my passenger side tire was wearing on the inside).

    Anyway, so I googled around and found on another forum a guy claiming that the tie rods for a 92 4runner are the same for the 92 Surf. I live a couple hours outside of Edmonton and I just happened to be going there today for work so I stopped at an auto parts store and picked up inner and outer tie rods and sleeves for a 92 4runner with hopes and changing them this weekend.

    Just hoping someone can give me some confirmation that once I break the old tie rods off that the ones I bought will indeed work.

        Lucky me. Napa gave me two different sleeves. Only one was the correct one and I didn't realize until I had one of the tie rods already off.

          Napa Tie Rods?

          Hey, I realize that this thread is pretty ancient, but was just wondering how the great tie rod debacle went. Did the Napa parts work out? Just wondering because I'm in a similar boat and I have gotten some conflicting part numbers for Surfs vs 4Runner. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

            Yeah, you can just ask for 4runner tie rods and you're all good. I've since found that most of the front end parts are the same, and suspension stuff. I've done brakes, rear coils, rear shocks, tie rods, and wheel bearings all from 92 4runner stock and everything fit perfect. Hope this helps!
