  • front crank oil seal

hi guys i took my under guard off today and noticed a little oil in the area of the front crankshaft oil seal. its not bad but id rather fix it before it is bad.

so......... what does the job entail on one of these? (its a 2.4) is it fairly simple or is it crank removal needed?
well, that was a bad idea!

Get a mechanic to have a look at it first.

Could also be leak from sump so check that as well. Sump is a silicon seal not a gasket.

it is most definitely the crank oil seal, its not a job i mind doing just wanted an insight first so i can tell the misses if i need her car for work for a few days.

im a mechanic by trade. so have all tools and necessary bits.

@thrifty, thanks for your useful reply but the answer you gave in no way helped.
i was asking for information on the CRANKSHAFT OIL SEAL not other bits i should change when doing it.
well, that was a bad idea!

The last were produced in 8/'93. Post your model and frame number if you want to know the real age of your Surf.

lads it was a mere question for an insight to the tools and other bits i will need, i dont want to take on a job at home to find out half way through i dont have to tool and stuck with no car and no tool to get car back, if you get my drift....

As you'll see its quite strait forward, you should find it a doddle! If you need anything i'm about 20 mins away, i'm often at a transport yard near calne.
