EGR - vacuum section removal

Hi,
Just putting the head back on the truck and leaving out the EGR pipes and diaphragm. I reconnected the vacuum section - that is the 2x VCSs which sit under the inlet manifold. It suddenly occured to me that all these VCSs seem to do is control the EGR - if I am removing the EGR 'hardware' (metal work) I may also remove the 'software' (i.e the 2x VCSs beneath the manifld). Could someone maybe confirm what I am proposing is actually correct? Photo attached of the 2x VCSs I am going to get rid of.

Top VSV controls the EGR Valve. Bottom VSV controls lower port for EGR Butterfly at Throttle Housing.

If you remove them then connect a T from the hose at VSV on throttle, to both ports on the Vacuum Diaphragm to maintain smooth engine shutdown.

I prefer to keep the butterfly VSV operational for engine braking. I have a manual.

Wow Nev, thank you - that is simply a lot of info there.
I am going to forge ahead and get the head/belts back on, get the thing running again and then I'll faff with the EGR VCSs later in the week.
I've had the truck 9 months and have gone from knowing next to nothing about diesels to having a good handle on it - certainly gets the brain working.
