  • front end oil leak

cheers dabigman re my sooty exhaust, thats a relief.I've now discovered an
oil leak dripping below the front&centre of the engine,i was told it could be costly to locate let alone repair, any ideas? cheers in advance

could be front crank seal or sump gasket but the crank seal is the more likely one, it will tend to run back and give the immpression that its a leak further back .

not a huge costly affair but a pain all the same..

Oh Dear, sounds like my problem, My Surf is loosing oil somewhere near the top of the engine, under the inlet side,. Difficult to locate, but on a motorway trip it runs out enough to splatter the rear of the vehicle.

I put it down to too much crankcase pressure,

      Not good.

Mines the same - Tony's spent ages looking for the leak and cant find it. Mine drips when not under pressure too.

        We'll keep searching!!

This might sound !!!!!! stupid but it has been suggested to me bofore that you shake talcum powder over your engine.

The oil leak should show up overnight, and the talc won't damage your engine.

So long as there's not too much crud over your engine it's supposed to work.

I would not even think about doing that.Talcum powder mixed with oil or grease would make a very nice cutting compound I would think.Imagine this stuff getting into some places where it should not be.Next thing someone will be suggesting is spraying deodorant up the exhaust to cure smoking problems.
