  • Yes, it's overheating!!

I've a K reg 2.4 manual with only 130000km, only got it a month ago [last one nicked] and it has started overheating as we go along, stuck the heater on and there was no warm air coming through for a while, then it did - but too late. All the water had boiled out through the little plastic bottle in the front - is this a thermostat thing or the cap? Should I flush?
If I do need a head exchange [kids reckon I should!] what price should I be paying and could I do it at home - I'm okay with motorbike building, is there a good manual out there, possibly download?
Am off out again with spare water!

First thing to do is get a new thermostat and cap. You'll need them anyway if you need a new head. Drain and flush cooling system and flush radiator. Make sure radiator is not blocked. Fit new thermostat, refill cooling system and see what happens.

As Nev said, drain, check inside coolant pipes for blockages, clear them, flush the system through, check metal pipes for cracks or if they have rusted through, refill, burp and see what she is like.

Did you check the rear heaters or just the front ones?
