This may seem a very basic question but it is baffling me. I have put a new head on my surf, and replaced all the rad, piping, water pump and various other bits and pieces, but when I came to replace the thermostat the one in the box supplied came without a rubber ring around it. I have looked in the Ellery and Haynes manuals and no reference is made to a sealing ring around the outer circumference of the thermostat. Do they have one? or are they self sealing? Most thermostats I have replaced in my time have always come with a rubber seal. The Ellery manual pictures in the book show no ring and no reference made at all to the sealing ring. Can anyone please advise.
