Well done . not the easiest head to change for a newbie . As you say take it easy and keep an eye on levels and pipe clips for leaks , but it sounds like a good job done to me.

Thanks! Turning the key was a top moment, it was great fun and really challenging for a newbie. Just goes to show what you can do when you try - Its just a question of self confidence and access to good to the information from this site. Its been like a therapy session.
I actually have _everything_ 100% working now, the rear heater, the rear window motor, my brake warning light. I think its wise to do another oil change now I've done 1000 kms on the new head as there may be some metal wear I imagine. I got a magnetic sump plug so I'm quite curious to see what I've caught.
This is the first time everything has worked ....so I feel at a bit of a loose end!
To do list:
I took the aircon out to make space and reduce weight (and I cant afford to re-fill it and plug the leaks) and I've just bought an old intercooler off ebay for a tenner. I'm going to get it welded in to the frame that once held the aircon rad and plumb it in, leaving the aircon fans in-situ. Hope to eek out another MPG or two. I get 25 on the motorway now, which isn't too shabby. Much poorer around town. Hoping that a bit denser oxygen might mean I will use a bit less gas.
Fitting a new passenger seat and base from ebay, (another tenner) that rotates for easier access for disabled people. (So I can take my old dad to the pub again one day.) Local firm welding the frame with the right lugs tomorrow.
I need to waxoil the underneath but I might have left it a bit late in the year now; I'll attack the lower wishbones with some hammeright in the meantime.
After all that, I'm bound to have caused untold damage and have plenty to keep me busy...
