  • Please tell me its not the head.........

    again.

Went up to work in Andover again today, about 40miles or so. Fine on the way up, but coming home it was running warm. Between half way and 3/4 up the guage.

Worried that after overheating yesterday, I may have cooked the head.

I had a "new" one (or so they told me) fitted under warranty about a year ago.

When I parked it a minute ago it boiled up out of the expansion bottle. Same symptoms as when the head went.

Could it just be caused by an air lock. Or could the transmission getting hot cause the same problem?

Need to sort this before the weekend.

    Ideas?

Leave it to cool and then start it up with the rad cap off. If it bubble out immediately I would suggest a blown gasket or cracked head. If not then you could have either a blockage, airlock, water pump gone, viscous fan coupling, or electric fan.

    Cheers and good luck

would also make sure the rad is really clean, was the homeward journey more hilly, more traffic was you going faster home etc.
After several outings mine was fine until after one trip to the pit on a hot day. Mud in rad cooked hard, thought i had cleaned it out properly, next day tepm gauges rises, got home and tokk the front grill off, there behind the grill etc was a large section of rad still caked in mud. Took at least twenty minute of gentle pressure washer to clean it right through. Since then good as gold

Whilst blocked, speeds below 65ish were fine as soon as I hit the 70+ the gauge moved up towards the red. Down hill and flats fine, uphill put foot down a bit for that exta ooomph up the hill and up went the gauge.
SO make sure 100% that rad is clean.

Been out and made sure the rad was totally clean,a patch about 2 inches square was the only bit I missed yesterday. I'll be surprised if that was enough to make get that hot. I took the cap off and checked for bubbles, couldn't see any.

Bought some rad flush. Whats the best way to drain the rad? Bottom hose I presume?

Yes the way home is quite hilly in places, but I'm driving at 70 mph and its all dual carriageway/motorway and got hotter on the uphill bits, understandibly.

Also did an oil flush and change as it was due anyway. What a pig it is to get the filter out once you've undone it.

Doing the same journey tomorrow with plenty of water on board just in case. Will see what happend

you should have a drain screw on the right hand side at the bottom of rad
i dont advise radflush as it may remove a repair done by previous owner flush the whole system out with hose for about an hour
