  • head supplier?

hiya, i have a reciept from the guy i bought the surf from for a new head but it seems a bit cheap.

its from PEERS PARTS in london
"new toyota head & gasket bolts" £175
this would make it less than 2years old.
does this sound right for a new head?
and anyone know if it'd be any good?

because i think mine might be knackered

    its "supposed" to have had

    new rad cap
    new water pump
    new thermostat
    drive belts
    new timing belt
    new rad
    new temp sender
n/stk temp switch (whatever that is)
    new alloy coolant pipe

it really shouldn't be over heating with the above new stuff should it? unless he's done a crappy job?

(forgot to mention the guy i got it from was a fitter by trade with use of a pro workshop so might not have needed all the gubbins that "should" come with a new head.

Given that this is probably the most discussed topic on this forum; how the hell don't you people know not to buy cheap heads from eBay or the likes?

Roughtrax or Stevo, we don't, currently, recommend anyone else.
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

My Roughtrax head arrived yesterday £644 including all the bits and next day delivery ( inc return carrage for old head)
Exellent friendly service and this price includes genuine Toyota wherever possible.

                  There should be a sticky at the top of every page;
THINK YOUR HEADS GONE OR BUYING A SURF !!!
TOP TEN THINGS YOU MUST DO
1, Get a gas test before spending time/money trying to keep it cool
2, Replace silicone oil in fan ( I think this could be a main cause of cracking)
3, Flush/check every part of cooling system
4, Only get parts from recomended sources (Cylinder Heads)
                  5,----
                  etc

I have gained a wealth of information from this forum, with help from people who have masses of experience with surfs and other vehicles. Im a joiner and this weekend I'm fitting a cylinder head to my surf. This would have been impossible without the help and info from this forum.

                  Respect

Even if you get the odd grumpy reply,,, just makes life more interesting
                  All the best

Fine advice, guys.. So now I know who to talk to for a head for my beast (Stevo) AND to avoid eBay - but that's gotta be a no brainer ..
Next time I'll read the damn Forum before I strip everything in sight till I find the head gasket - without taking notes or photos. I'm taking it slow from here on HA! http://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/images/smilies/banghead.gif

Second that, frontman. I'd love to start a wiki project so the definitive information could be presented without searching. This site has so much good data but you need to spend a long time to sort it all before you can start on a head job.

Yes I think a page for specific info on each surf model with a top ten of must do items would be great. and if it was written by non tech folk (like me) with the help of the Surf gurus available it could make life a lot easier (and cheaper) for lots of folk.
