  • Valve Stem Oil Seals

Hi all, as per the title - I think they need replacing! I am now confident that it is not the turbo giving me the problem, I am burning a lot of oil (ask anyone that has had the pleasure of being behind me on a green laning trip) and have done since first owning the vehicle. It is most noticeable after it's been left to idle or after driving at low revs for a period time.

I have read as much as I can find on the matter but there doesn't seem to be many people that have done it - might be because the seals normally out live the heads in most cases?

I think I will use the TDC method to stop the valves from dropping, rather than relying on compressed air. I am just a bit worried about re-aligning it all after turning the cranks shaft that much.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

    Turbo

Hi mate, my surf started smoking last week and got really worse especially at tick-over or cruising downhill. I feared valve stem oil-seals as turbo was working as it should. Turned out it was the turbo, luckily i had a spare. Hopefully it's your turbo thats playing up.

Hi, pretty sure it's not the turbo, a week after a bought the truck the turbo went completely so I replaced it with a 2nd hand one but there was still some smoke, I then refurbished the this turbo but I'm still burning oil.
