  • few issues after enine change

its running well but temperatures higher on gauge than i it was and engine management light comes on niw and again.

also glow plug light does not stay on long enough to start from cold, do glow plugs like 7 times for it to start engine came out of my other truck i was using with no issues at all, new plugs. im wondering if the rads not too good, or air in it

The glow plug light has little to do with the length of time the plugs are heating. Are they wired up right?

Did you bleed the cooling system?

Are the Vacuum hoses all fitted correctly?

What error codes do you get?

Is the new engine the same as the one you took out?
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

the engine came out of my truck ive been using for the last year with no probs. yes wired and piped ok

how do you read the codes, its at my dads gonna drive it home later and see what its like. i hope its just got some air in the pipes, the temp gauge stays steady but its higher than my other truck was which made me worry a bit

Is the 80 amp fuse (for the glow plugs) OK?

There are several write ups on how to check the error codes, I could search for you and give you the links, but I can't be bothered; you'll just have to do it yourself.

Is it the same temperature sender? The one on the new engine might be reading wrong?

it is a different temp sender, i drove it home and it stayed half way so think thats ok, does seem to start better after a run, but glow plug light hardly stays on, other truck you had to weight and started great

I get to drive lots of surfs, some run with the needle bang on half way, some just to left of half way.

I think its just a gauge/sender thing, they all seem to run at the same temp when you fit a gauge with actual temps on it.

As long as its not moving around and getting hotter as you drive it, I'd say it was ok.

You need to do the fault codes to see what fault the ECU is struggling with for the engine light.

Is the glowplug fuse ok? The light will still come on even if the fuse is blown, and its easy to get the bus bar or the resistor leads wrong and short the power to the glowplugs.

the engine lights stopped coming on after driving it home. the only thing now that seems wrong is hard to start from cold and does not seem to rev its self up a bit when cold, my other truck would rev up like a choke till it warmed up a bit.

fuses look ok, if i do glow plugs like 7 times it starts alright

Have you done the fault codes yet? A duff coolant temp sensor will shorten the time the glowplugs stay on for.

ideal i have not done that as not sure how yet. i did have to change a sensor which runs trhew gauge would it be that one or the other sensor

Tell us what error codes you get, or we'll get fed up trying to help you.

Which could mean dodgy glow plugs.

What voltages do you get at the glow plug bus bar?

right how do you read the codes ive joined the te1 and e1 and nothing

fuse was ok but ive just broken it trying to get it out before i realised to take fuse box apart
new glow plugs they obviously work as now it wont start at all without the fuse

Did you do it with ignition on and any immobilser turned off? You should have continuous flashing with no faults, so if nothing happening you've either not bridged the connections properly (they are sometimes hard to get a connection with just a paperclip, short bit of stripped wire is better) or you have an ECU problem.

It would have stored the fault that the light came on for even if it stays off now, so something should come up.

Has anyone mentioned the vacuum hoses yet? they are often the curpit after big engine work and not connected up 100% right. If htey are holding the shut down valves closed instead of open, or the EGR is open all the time it'll not want to start and run badly.
