  • Topping up Coolant

OK, I'll admit this is a silly question.

I've just gone out to check my coolant and maybe top it up.
But I can't see where to do this.

I've read that you should not top up from the expansion tank.

I can take the thermostat/radcap off, and I guess I could put liquid in there - but I can't see any level indicators.
Do I just fill it unitl it is full ?

Or should I be looking for some other place to fill it up ?

Also, do I use water ?
or do I need to add anti freeze, or anything else ?

for the time being top it up with water through the rad cap, if you need more than a cupful squeeze the pipes to get any air out, then start the engine with rad cap off & top up as required till all the air is out

Best thing is to premix some water / antifreeze mix (30% antifreeze). Top up through the rad cap till it is full, do it slowly and as Marky says, start the engine with the rad cap off and let ot run for about 15 minutes and squeeze the heater hoses occasionally. Also make sure that both front and rear heaters are on.

        Cheers

            The bash was great,

highlights involve paitball injuries, police turning up tinking it was a rave, someone starting the engine on a huge byplane and a bit of kite boarding.

You should have been there mate.
