  • 2.4 fuel pump question

Well the old girl started to leak fuel on saturday and the garage confirmed it's the fuel pump where the leak is but not exactly where on the pump.
I know there is an overhaul kit from roughtrax and when I told the garage they refused to consider it and want to send the surf to a diesel specialist to see about getting it reconditioned as this must be done in a "sterile" environment.
The garage I use are great and done me many a favour but I can't understand why if this fuel pump is such a delicate piece of equipment, why is the overhaul kit available for any home mechanic to install?
    Any thoughts, advice appreciated.

    TIA
    Ross

its beacuse mate the pump can be very tricky to put back together with springs valves and all sorts of voodoo magic going on inside it. if your a novice at mechanical tinkering i wouldnt try doing it your self, if you are mechanicaly minded then give it go im sure there is a right up on here if you do a search. if not have a google but be warned if you dont know what your doing leave it alone could cost ya a new pump at the very least.

lol, Thanks, I thought it was a "voodo magic" thing when I spoke to him. I'm mechanicaly clueless and at the mercy of garages in these situations unfortunatly.
