  • Deep water troubles

    Hello All -

This past summer when pushing my truck through deeper water and for longer periods of time I would sometimes have an alarm sound go off, all my lights on the bottom of the stock gauge cluster would goe on, and I would seem to loose power steering. I figured this was likely due to a sensor getting wet, possibly on the power steering. I kind of forgot about it till our past wheeling trip. All of a sudden while wheeling all my notification lights were on, the alarm was going off, and I had no power steering, problem was I wasn't in water. It's winter here and we had been plowing through powder snow and I did have a lot of ice build up under the front diff and power steering pump area. After a small break the truck ran without the alarm and lights going and the steering was back to normal. I've done a bunch of searching but have no idea what it could be. Anyone have a clue what's going on? Thanks in advance for your assistance!

    Cheers!

They often do that when you go wading and the alternator gets very wet or crap in it, sometimes take a day of two to dry out before it starts charging again.

Power steering must just be a slightly loose belt that then got wet, there is no electrical way to stop the P/S working, its just a belt and pump.

I've just done my timing belt and water pump so we'll see if the newly tightened alt and PS hold up come spring. Thanks!
