Hello All -
I recently rolled over 100,000km in my 93 surf and had the lovely lil tbelt light go off. I'm over in Canada so it took a lil bit to get all the parts but I picked up: timing belt, timing belt tensioner, timing belt idler, camshaft oil seal, crankshaft oil seal, and waterpump. I took basic mechanics and small engine repair in high school but have only done brakes and small bolt on type mods on my vehicles. I've never done anything so deep into the engine that's for sure! I figured though since I had more time than money and there were great instructions online I'd might as well give it a shot and try to do it myself. Since there aren't alot of pictures in the guides and some people learn better visually or just want to see how things work I figured I'd upload the pics I took. If anyone wants the instructions I followed they can be found here:
http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/timingbelt.htm
http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/drivebelts.htm
http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/waterpump.htm
http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/alternator.htm
It started right away, ran smooth, no leaks! Just have to put the hood, fender, and bumper back on and I'm good to go! I took off more than was needed but I wanted to inspect everything as well as take my time and give myself more room. Also removed the rest of the unecessary AC items/lines since I converted it to on board air
Cheers!
