  • 2.4 timing belt

Why is it so difficult to get a breakdown of a 2.4 timing belt and water pump change? I have searched through many threads and found lots of 3.0 but no 2.4 yet! Is there a reason for this? If you know of one please link it :-)
Does the job take same as 3.0 5-6 hours! even better if you know how to will you break it down for me...or come and do it lol. Thanks for continued help guys

3.0 is easy and quick, the 2.4 is the tricky one.

Its definatly been covered here, I've typed it out lots. not got time to go into to many details ATM but basically..

    Drain coolant
    Remove top hose
    remove fan and fan shrould
    remove all the belts
remove two coolant hoses across front of cambelt cover
remove A/C pump (don't undo hoses)
    remove A/C bracket
    remove crank pully
    remove cam cover.

    change belt

    reverse of above to refit.

If you've not done one before it'll take all day. Don't fark your crank pully by pulling on the outside belt grooves, use as hub puller.

      This should help.

Best to get someone who has done a 2.4 to help unless you are mechanically minded.

Check, double check and triple check the timing before it all goes back together. Don't know why but many get it wrong.

Ive been doin my tbelt and the rest of the maintenance, I've followed the instructions previously posted and it's been easy so far! Here's a pic of the new "heavy duty" water pump, new tensioner, new guide, and both the cam/crank seals have been replaced:

The belt is now on and I'm in the process of putting it all back together. Best of luck on your project!!

          Cheers!

I am not doing mine until next week and looking forward to it, I am not using the truck as worried it might break lol, what do you mean heavy duty water pump? Are there different sorts? Cheershttp://www.hiluxsurf.co.uk/images/smilies/drummer.gif

I'm not 100% on the "heavy duty" but thats what I was told by the guy I ordered the parts from. In all honesty it looked identicle to the one I pulled off. If you want to look at all the pics through the process I made a thread:

Just take your time, mark stuff, group all your nuts/bolts, and a have a blast! I spread it over a couple days as I didnt need to drive the truck and was busy with other stuff but I'm confident I could do it start/finish now in about 4 hrs. It's nice to know your rig intimately!
