think my engine is abt to go pop!!

checked the coolant level today, all ok in the expansion bottle no oil or mayo, so i un-screwed the pressure cap, which was a little awkward to get off. and inside the housing there is a kinda engine oil residue around the inside of the housing.

not checked for mayo in the engine yet, will do that tomoz,

any suggestions folks? is my headgasket about to give way?

If there was water up to the rad cap as well I see no reason to think the head might be ready to pop. What you describe as engine oil is probably the coolant.

The oil residue could be from any oil contaminated coolant hoses. Check to see if you have any oil leaks onto any coolant hose sleeves

the oil cooler behind the filter housing can leak, mixing oil with coolant.

or the AFT cooler in rad could be leaking.

It could be a head gasket issues, but I've never seen one on a Surf.
