The route is You-GB-Europe-Japan-Europe-GB-You It takes a while.

If you have permission to have the work done, go to your local dealership with the letter; they will not contact you. I'm sure I've mentioned this before?

Have you got permission from Toyota? Without it, your dealer can do nothing.

                    Got some info today!

                    Just to update of my dealings so far;

I called Toyota UK using the info in this thread on the 21st July (I date marked it in post #32 in this thread) and this morning I have received a letter from them saying they are making arrangements for the mod to be done.

I am in Weymouth, Dorset and I have to travel to about 35 minutes to Yeovil (at Surf speeds) to get it done.

According to my instructions I should hear from the parts manager at the Toyota dealer there within 21 days to arrange it but if not then phone themn to get it sorted (the dealer and parts manager details are all listed which makes a refreshing change!).

I'll post back with more info when I have it.

My only concerns are that the vehicle is modified so will they still honour it when I get there (although it's not like voiding a warranty as my truck is 21 this December) and if anything else breaks when they do the changeover who's liable? Usuallu it would be the garage but I'm not sure what the stand point is on something of this age?

I'll soon find out I guess?!

                    Cheers,

                    Ray.
I've got a plan and it's as hot as my pants!

Well it's only taken since August, but today I got an email similar to the one above stating I should hear from my local dealer within 21 days. Apparently I'll also be sent a formal recall notice too.

Am I right in saying as it is an official recall that it should be cost free? For such a critical steering component, I'm not fussed if I have to pay for my own piece of mind, but if they're footing the bill....bonus!

I'm still waiting, got notice from Toyota stating local dealer will be in touch but local dealer doesn't want to know.
Been sat on this for a week or two now as I managed to loose all my details.
But; this weekend I found them so I'll be chasing this up again this week.

My Surf went into the dealer this morning to have the recall work done. Got a call about 20 mins ago with some 'safety information' (read, jobs they could make money off).

1 - Timing cover missing (the one over the fuel pump) - £200+ !!!
                            2 - Radiator fan shroud missing - £200+
3 - Brake pipes across back axle (which I know needed doing) - £170
                            4 - Front ball joint gaiters torn - £200+

They never mentioned the rear anti-roll bar isn't attached to the rear axle though

Apparently the head gasket didn't need doing so looks like I'll have to solve my own heater problems, but the steering relay rod is being done and thats the bit I was most concerned about, so all is good.
