I've just replaced the timing belt on my 1992 2.4 (LN130) and it took nearly 3 hours just to get the radiator out! First thing I noticed, is when I removed the bash plate there is a mysterious radiator (or so it appears) in the way! Obviously I removed this, I had to to get to the drain plug for the main rad - but what IS it? I read a thread on here just now that seems to indicate its an aircon rad, but I thought it must have been some sort of aux (possibly aftermarket???) transmission oil cooler? The reason I didn't think it was an aircon rad is that it has two electric fans attached to it, and some flexi hosing. I sometimes hear these fans going, when they run they do so even with the engine stopped (ign still on though) which indicates that it's trying to cool something down - BUT - I never use the aircon, fistly because it's not charged so doesnt actually get "cold" and secondly because I live in Wales and it's -500 all year round. So if it's an aircon rad, I don't see why the fans should occasionally fire up when the aircon is never doing any "work". Which is what leads me to believe its not an aircon rad - any thoughts on this at all? Sorry this is long but any input would be appreciated!
