  • Power Loss?

ok let me start with the conditions driving back from the north truck running sweet as ,getting into the cotswolds steep up and downs so really giving the trucks auto box a work out when going along a long incline about 50 ish 2500rpm or so in top something weird happens the revs drop off to idle for a second or two then it goes back to how it was before no warning lights on dash the only other symptons where when it went back to normal i seemed to lurch/jolt it is difficult to describe as it happened so quick.

    Any suggestions please?

    hangs head in shame
seems that shmbo had the same thing happen on the first leg of the journey, hit a patch of black ice everything went a bit quiet then as the rear wheels came back into contact with tarmac everything went back to normal.
    (apparently I was asleep)

Rev's would rapidly climb if you hit ice, not fall to idle.

Keep an eye on it re-occuring as temperature falls.

hmmm very curious now I was quite happy in my ignorance, you seem to think it may be temperature related?
I would be very interested if you could expand on what you think I should be looking out for

I'd be watching what the rev counter does. If it does go to idle, you have an issue; if it doesn't go to idle, but the truck merely goes quiet, you're on ice.

I thought everyone knew the 'No road noise = ice' thing...
Do you know that, with a 50 character limit, it's

Thanks for the reply , as usual with these things I think I may be looking at a number of issues, the revs deffo died off to idle but no lights came up on the dash.
I think that it is going to be a fuel issue

                I have had a look thru' the forum and to start with I need to be ;
checking fuel filler cap as there is a suction when removing.
testing what comes out of the fuel drain.
changing where we fill up (asda)

Any other help would be marvelous.

pirate storm has a similar problem but the engine management light comes on.
I am going to give it a service and if that don't cure the problem then it will go to TonyN to do the fuel pump as there is a fault code coming up for one of the solenoids or something on it

I've had similar with my 2.4 once it was put down to a blocked fuel filter (by me), and the second time i had left the truck idling while waiting to drop my boy off at school set off home uphill and the truck lost power red check light come on, truck slowed down to about 20kph i left the throttle alone just kept it going uphill as gently as i could, to avoid stopping crested the hill got home and its not done it since but i think with running wvo the pump didn't draw enough fuel through when idling so i don't let it sit idling and its been fine since
I'M ALWAYS IN THE SH'T, IT'S ONLY THE DEPTH THAT VARIES!!!!!!!!

ok have just changed the oil nice and thick and black to be expected.
auto box was low on oil(thought i had checked the lvl after changing the rad )?
new fuel filter fitted and there was some crap coming out of the drain off.

filled up with "advanced diesel" and put in 4 litres of petrol after a arguement with the petrol station staff .

may just be a placebo effect but does seem to be a bit crisper ?
