Got some stuff that came with Tam's Herald . Called 4Life , it is a complete coolant replacement and is put straight into the system after draining and flushing cooling system . It is red but turns yellow if combustion gases are found in cooling system . It will revert to red when fault fixed. it also lowers the running temp of coolant .May give you a more defined answer to head prob ?

Do not know how much it is but for a Surf 2x 5 litre bottles may be needed ?

      bugger

OK, update - 350miles completed and finally remembered to check coolant level before I left work today - managed to get 3 litres in, oh dear.

But, I thinks to myself, it hasn't overheated, so the journey home (53miles) should be OK, then I just need to work out where it's going (If there's a leak it'll be surrounded by little copper evidence from the K-seal I hope).

But, 52.5miles later, she goes from normal to sauna in seconds, blowing enough steam pressure out of the overflow to play a tune!

It's really not amusing waiting for your car to cool down so you can race the last 1/2mile home before it does it again!

So, back to the drawing board for me. I'll be out there later (once it's cool) to see what I can see. But so far there's absolutley no sign of oil or coolant being in each other and I haven't had steamy exhaust syndrome again either. Odd.

      (Sad) Geoff.

        water sealer

Take the thermostat out when it's cooled down and try it again, remember to have the back and front heater controls set to hot, or you will not get all the water in, run it with the cap off and gradually keep topping it up. I really do hope this is just a hiccup with air trapped in the system.

Well, played with it this morning and it looks terminal.

Took about 5litres to fill it up again, and then tried all the various bits of advice, but in summary:
          - running with cap off, water slowly flows out
          - with cap on, expansion tank gradually (over)fills
          - front heaters got hot, rear's didn't, then fronts went cold as well
          - can feel top rad hose getting hot and cold, so guessing thermostat is working

So, it's off the road now and going into Stevo's next week (should learn to do what Marky tells me!).

Now, who's best for hire cars.....

          Geoff.

              Hey it's worth a try!!

Amazingly I used a couple of headblock products back in June and the truck has been doing serious miles, sweetly ever since!

I used 2 products both from Kalimex. The first called 'Seal up' which you have to drain the system fully before using (bl**dy airconditioning unit only real problem there!) The second called K-Seal which I added once the system was re-filled. I then replaced the thermostat (which gets clogged when you use these things.)

Seal up looks the more robust of the 2, with the K Seal remaining in the system plugging any weak spots as they arise.

So that was about £25 and a couple of hours work. If it all blows up this afternoon, it will have still given me 4 months driving and about 15,000 km!
