unfortunatly i have a dislike of finance and bought the truck outright with cash but have just got back from the dealer after telling him i was in the process of taking LEGAL advice and he has said that he is more than willing to take the motor back and get the problem sorted, but has said that he will need the truck bought to him so he can leave it over night and then start it from cold to see the smoke for himself as a timed and date digital photo of it smoking isnt good enough eveidence so all i need to do now is get the truck to him in southend and find a car i can use for the time he has the truck as i have to get to work in braintree every day as we are short staffed at the moment so i cant even take a few days holiday

It's quite normal for them to want the car over night and start it from cold for this sort of problem. It's not just a matter of seeing the smoke, it's so they can check the electrical side of things from cold, (plugs, plug heating time, etc)

Glow plugs have been checked and cooling pressure test done, still nothing wrong.

I've stopped worrying about it now.
Mine is the same most of the time but then I know that my injectors are bu**ered and I'll eventually get round to changing them. It's interesting that this didn't start untill I changed the glowplugs. It started fine before then - unfortunately I chucked the old glowplugs away. I only changed them because when the head was off I looked at them and they looked pretty knackered. I guess that shows that if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Mine starts quite lumpy from cold and some smoke. If I leave it to idle for about 30 seconds then rev it, the smoke clears completely and he engine runs fine.

          Cheers

I think im about to spend a fortune !

            Hi,

I have the same problem with my 91 2.4 ssrg.

It started with overheating a few weeks ago and I filled up rad (I check water an doil every few weeks and only been serviced 2 weeks before) - with 2 large bottles of water - it ran fine for a week or so but then same again - there was no leaking of collant where parked - I took it back to garage as had recon engine in february with years warranty - they checked radiator and various other bits and said it was fine but did take the thermostat innards out and said run it for a few days and see if it still overheats - that was saturday - this morning it didnt want to start just clicked 1sta nd 2 nd turn and then started but sounded as though it was trying toclear itself - after 30 seconds it was fine.

Dorve 10 miles and turned off for 30 minutes when got back in it turned over no problem but bellowed white smioke / steam from exhaust - this cleared quite quickly so started to drive - after 8 miles it suddenly shot straight to red so I pulled over and waited 40 minutes to cool - filled up with 2 large bottles of water and manegd to get home !

The water was checked saturday morning and i have done about 90 miles since then.

The garage are coming to collect it as I wont drive it untril theyve seen it again.

Reading the threads it sounds like the head ?

I had a new radiator fitted and serviced 3 weeks ago - it overheated once before then but was fine - could it be anything to do with new rad ?

Already spent £4,500 on new engine and all the crap associated with it just cant justify more - what shall I do ?

The engine is warranted for 1 year would this also cover the head ?
            Help
