  • roughtrax lift kit

Hello to you all i`ve been away from the site for a while but it has been a completely trouble free surf break and because of this i`m treating the old girl to some new suspension and wheels, this is just the start to a possible full make over if i can come up with some more great excuses to give the wife why i need to spend hundreds of £££`s on a 20 year 4x4 instead of buying a new one.. Anyway to which i`m sure will be first of many posts. Has any one fitted the 2" lift kit from roughtrax, i have the kit sat in my hall way awaiting my attention i also added poly anti rollbar kits to it to. Just need to know if there is anything unforeseen i should look for and any tip or tricks to getting her level and true. Look forward to any help and thanks in advance guys.

I've ordered the same lift kit on Friday, I'd suggest that whichever of us fits it first post up a guide with a few piccies.
I'm hoping that I'll have mine fitted by the end of the week

to be honest on a 2" lift i wouldn't bother with the torsion bars as they can be a right pain to do.
I would only do the T/bars on a lift over 2"
You can only really crank the torsion bars 1.5" before you start to trouble with excess wear on the cv's anyway. If you work out what it cost for the 4 shocks and 2" lift springs and then compare that to the price of the kit you will save yourself a few ££'s.
I had this kit myself on my first surf and i wouldn't bother with the kit again to be honest and i would do as i said above

I was toying with the idea of just the shocks, springs and winding up the existing bars, but the price of the kit with the torsion bars wasn't that much more.

I wont be doing too much on road milage, but I'll take your advice about the CV's and see if I can drop the front diff 1" to 2". Any idea if the prop will need extending too?

Also I'll try making a bracket to drop the panhard rod to compensate for the lift if it looks like lift has buggered the geometry

the panhard rod will be ok with 2" lift
The diff can only have 1" spacers fitted and even then you may have to cut the heat sheild from the exhaust

Well time was against me this weekend so only managed the rear. No problems took me about 3 hours with breaks as it was scorching hot. Looks good and sits a lot better than before. As mentioned earlier the extra cost of the kit against buy the individual parts was small if any and I plan on taking a trip to scrap yard to weigh old bits in once complete so should get some £££s back. I'm planning on changing the hubs so hopefully this will reduce the wear on th cv's. I will check back in week for updates and thanks guys for the posts. No pics of the rear but i will take some of the front. Rear just needs jacking up high enough to drop axle off the jack disconnect anti roll bar from chassis and and swap parts out. Only help I had was from my daughter who kept an eye out for creepy crawlies for daddy.
