  • fuel leak

Ok chaps I have got a 93 2.4l which has got a pretty bad fuel leak.
I am not much of a mechanic so I have taken it to 2 garages, none of them can find the problem and I am now 100 quid out of pocket.
    My questions to you are:
can you recommend a garage or person around the chester area that could help and failing that how much shall I try and sell it for with 11 month mot and 5 months tax as I am stuck for a vehicle for work?

    Thanks

where abouts on the truck is the fuel leaking from.Is it from the p[ump or the fuel lines. There must be somewhere showing sins of fuel leaking.I would of thought it was the pump and if so it will be a easy enough cure as it will be seals on it

really not sure to be honest, the first guy said he thought a seal in the pump and said he had fixed it but it is still no better.
It has been in a garage today with 3 mechanics on it and none of them could see where it was coming from.

Get some engine degreaser all over the side of the engine it leaks from, then jetwash it off so your engine is nice and clean. Leave to dry then place a bit of clean cardboard under your truck overnight. In the morning remove the air filter box and hose. The cardboard should show whether the drip is from the front or back of engine. Start at the injectors and slowly work your way down until you find a damp spot. That is where your leak is ... Use a torch if it's a bit dark in there.. Jack the front up and get underneath if you can't find it from the top, or remove the front wheels and look through the wheel arches to find it (wear goggles to stop diesel getting in your eyes if lying under the truck )

Also why are you £100 out of pocket if they could not even find the leak ?

as already been said its no good looking for an oil or water or diesel leak on a dirty engine,it needs to be clean.so clean the engine and run it and look around the the fuelling side of engine with a torch, the leak should be blatantly obvious.when running.

They weren't reaaly mechanics then if they couldn't find a fuel leak, there's only a couple of places it could leak from.
Did they say that it had been 'fixed' just to get some money out of you?

Get a pump seal kit from Roughtrax and take it with you to a garage that has tools in it, not a garage full of 'tools'.
