  • Radiator blown...........

There seems to be alot of this about at the moment, must be the weather?

2 weeks into owning my surf and I blow the top off the radiator(I've got warranty cover so should be ok).
I'm in the same boat as many others,is the head cracked, hmmmm?
The overflow bottle was filling nicely, the temp gauge was rising and falling when the truck was moving then it rose and rose and bang the top of the radiator now has a 12" split along the top.
Why didn't the rad cap release the pressure?
    Is it a cracked head?
For a car with '35k' miles on it there was a lot of c**p in the water.
Did anybody in Japan ever get this problem,it would appear not, they or most seem to go in the U.K.,funny that?
Any comments or help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your predicament, myself and a lot of others on here know how you feel right now.

If you do a search on the site for head problems, you will quickly get a handle on the problem.
The site is superb at offering a window into the dark corners of surf mechanics.
Do some searching, it will make you feel a little bit better.
    best of luck

      warranty

Be carefull of so called warranties from second hand car traders, there not usually worth the paper their written on, and the warranty people try to get out of fullfilling their obligation by putting the problem down to wear and tear.
Also the wont pay for degassing and regassing your Air con, stretch bolts, or anything else not to do with the problem

          on the brighter side...

          Hiya,

just to let you know that I had my radiator overheat and split along the top about a month after getting it and was convinced the head had gone...except the temperature only climbed through the roof in traffic or when I was stationary. I had the radiator checked by a local specialist and it turned out it was all blocked up inside with skank. One new radiator core later (and 400.00 poorer...b*gger) and I've not had a problem since That was six months ago now, so if the head was going to go, I think it probably would have done something dramatic in the meantime So it may not all be doom and gloom...
