  • LN 130 exhaust query

LN130 has just failed MOT because rear part of exhaust has dropped off. On looking I find its not a standard exhaust but looks to be a botch up. The mid section box, looks ok apart from there is no connection to the rear box and tail pipe, just a hole
I'm assuming a complete new box is now called for but before I do is there anyone with any constructive suggestions, I have the rear box with tail pipe.

Are ou saying there is only a hole in the mid box, no pipe coming out of it to connect to?
If so your mid box could be buggered, cause I'd have thought you needed something to connect the pipework to. Best bet is to ask an exhaust place (not kwick fit or similar but look for a proper place that knows it's onions).

If you have something to connect pipework to from the mid box, ditch the rear box (this increased my mpg by 1, without any increase in noise), and get a mechanic to run some exhaust pipe the rest of the way to the rear.

Yes I am. The two quotes I've had for full exhausts don't show a rear box, that's where I'm confused. So I might get away with a middle section plus pipe instead of the 200 quid for a full exhaust.

Some of the 2.4s have rear boxes, some don't, you don't need it so loose it, all it does is restrict the exhaust gases.

Some members have had sucess fitting a transit box, I can't remember who off the top of my head, but I'm sure a search would yeild you some results.

Hiya mate - I have the complete rear section but not sure on the condition as its been in the garden for a few months. I see you are in North Wales - I am only just outside Chester in North Wales so could deliver it for you Monday. Anyway I will dig it out tomorrow an let you know what condition its in. Not after alot of money either an if it helps one of you guys all the better.

              Brilliant.
              That's lucky on 2 counts.
One it would be brilliant and 2 I'm in Brum visiting my daughters until Tuesday at the earliest, so don't come visiting tomorrow, not that you wouldn't be most welcome.

How big a section of the back end do you have

Lol - Have to wait till hubby comes in as can't get it out. You could always call in an have a look yourself if your passin through but will upload a pic when its out an let you know.

Delivery might be a prob anyway as mine had just snapped in half an sounds like a tractor but if you're not too far away. Deffens you.

If you want it mate you can have it. Free. Can't see anywhere the rust has really done any damage other than maybe under the clip for the last bit of the tailpipe but feel free to come have a look for yourself anyways. Was't blowin or anythin when I took it off to replace with the side exit one.
