  • 4x4 stops rumble!

    Hi Folks

I wonder if anyone could point me in the right direction concerning a problem with my 2.4

Basically I have a shudder when under load with the overdrive on an around 2000 RPM. I thought it might be the torque converter but all appears to be fine and passed the stall test. I have had a look at the UJ’s without removing the prop and all looks well there without removing to check. I'll maybe do this next week.

Today I did notice something though. I popped into 4x4 when in the middle of a rumble to find that stops it, 4x4 off back to the rumble and roll?

Any thoughts would be more than welcome!!!

Do you have a metallic rattle on rough surfaces?

If so could be the bronze bushes on their way out.

Putting into 4wd loads them up as normally they are just running loose.

Thanks! I've read about the bronze bushes. I don't think I have a mettallic rattle but I'll listen for it.

You can try moving the half shaft up/down back/forward to see how much play it's got.

Also dry / stiff UJ's won't show unless you drop shaft down.

A wee update! It might be handy in the future if someone has a similar problem.

Anyway, the rumble is gone for sure. I tested it today fully loaded up a couple of long steep hills with no issues My fault. The At fluid was over filled considerably so I drained it to the correct level and hey presto job done! I'll need to do a fluid change though as there are some bubbles in there due to being churned up.

Thanks sv1000spilot! it's great to have someone to talk to when things go a little pear shaped...
