  • 3L or maybe 2LT guide / thread for cam belt change

I need to change / check my cam belt on a 3L engine, is it the same as a 2LT?

Does anyone know of a nice guide or thread with handy tips please? (I have searched)

My poor Hilux is not very well and has failed for the first time in 11 years to get me home (I think the timing belt has jumped a tooth without looking yet)

Yes and no. Yes for the LN130 2L-T and no for the LN6# 2L-T.

Have a look at the Aussie tech site.

3L is just a 2.8 version of the 2.4 2L, it should all be the same cambelt wise.

The link should work. It will take you to the main page.

            Here's the timing belt link.

            http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/techsite/timingbelt.htm

The 3L and the 2L-TE timing belt parts are exactly the same.

Oops! Just noticed you have the 3Ltr. There's no tech site article for these at the moment. I do have one that was sent to me and will see about getting it on the tech site.

Looks like it's going to live

Front Crank pulley rubber failed leading to the the front cover being worn away and I think I piece of plastic finding its way under the timing belt allowing it to jump a tooth.

All timed up now, had a test fire and running fine, just need to wait for some new parts and it will be back on the road.

Aye was about to say the same thing, lost two cars to timing belt failures, hence why the first thing I did with the surf was get it changed asap.

It was Lucky, the belt was not due to be changed and there was not any odd sounds from the broken pulley.

A large box of bits arrived Friday and it should be back on the road Monday / Tuesday with the following new bits.

                      Cam Belt
                      Tensioner
                      Idler
                      Crank Pulley
                      New cover
                      All new belts

Cost over £200 in bits but it should give me a few more years of very cheap motoring.

Yeah - LN107 2.8D n/a. Love it too. Bit of a diff without the turbo - still keep wait for it to kick in, an hills are intersting when you lose the momentum lol. Just need a few mods to it now. cam belt was my first thing given my past experience :-( so made up you were so lucky.

Well done Bibs, welcome to no over heating problems and 500Km before filling up club, ok yes if you lose momentum it can take a while to build up the speed again but it's worth it.

tbh I just potter around changing gear early and don't often go above 65.

Mines back on the road now.

You can actually get over 65???? My exhaust is blxd somewhere an sounds like a tractor but cant find where its blowin from. Did you know you have to drop gearbox to refit a new downpipe!!!!!

Might mail you with a few questions if thats ok
