  • 4x4 no longer engaging

    Hi

I went greenlaning yesterday and 4x4 was engaging fine on my 1992 2.4 surf ssrx. Then a bit later on - nothing - just rear wheel drive working, no 4x4 light, NO FUN!

I'm new to mechanics and surfs, so please make replies a little 'layman' if you would be so kind!

I'm just after some ideas as to where I should start to look and what I might need to check etc.

    Thanks guys

Do you hear any clunks or wirring noises when you press the button on the transfer lever?
Does 4wd engage when you shift the transfer lever forwards into H4?

Actually, now I've been driving it a round a bit and playing around, I've noticed that when I depress the 4wd button there is a clunking noise of sorts - not mechanical but it sounds electrical if that makes sense? Almost as if a light bulb has blown or something.

Does that mean anything to anyone????

When my 4 wheel drive wasn't working the control wires had come off the transfer box, didn't get 4 wheel drive light, just got a small click from dash

Thanks New Surfer - tried that but all appears to be in order.

There's loads of oil around the front diff casing - could this be something to do with it?

have you checked all the vacuum hoses in tht area? (near those wires) it's usually a vacuum hose problem
