  • Nice Electric Fan Infront of Rad

    hey guys my lovely fan in front of my rad does not work what so ever, seeing as there is feck all surfs here in dublin in scrap yards can i use a leccy fan froma more common motor????


    i buy a lot from rich (stormforce) but shipping is a killer....


    and with only one of us in the house working cash is getting even tighter....

    Yep. Some have done the conversion to a, erm, (googles) Kenlowe fan. Do a search on Kenlowe and see what's what.

    Easier and cheaper, though, would be to take the viscous one to bits and lock it up.

      just checked fan works when i disconnect the cable from thermostat housing so any ideas, as i have never heard the fan on....

        Oh. The electric one....If it works when you disconnect it, the sensor's screwed. New ones are about 60 quid from Roughtrax so your choices are to get one from Rich posted over (tiny, should be cheap) or to fit a switch so that you can turn it on and off yourself.

          Hi i am pretty sure thats the way the switch is suposed to work all of my Surf,s are like that.

            thanks, i reckon sensor is kaputski..... time for a bit more wiring, can i just re-route wiring to switch on dash or does that sensor do anything else????

              the fan won't come on when driving normally, only if the motor gets really hot, or you have the aircon on.

              there is a resistor on the lower front right hand side of the rad (under the Power steering dryerthingy) check this hasn't corroded away.

                yeh mines the same ive just been leaving it on permanent it only works with ignition on. Does anyone think this is a problem apart from a cooler motor an a bit of noise. This is only temparary till i do my cambelt and a full service soon ive ordered parts and waiting for a nice day, maybe august or so

                  well i have had engine up to 100 degrees and still no fan, hence i am gonna do the switch, need to change power steering box, so will look at that yokey when i have that area dismantled...

                    I have a working fan switch in an envelope ready to post out if you want it. £20 including postage.

                      cheers appreciate it, let me get the funds together, i havent even the cash for a pint at the moment, done a lot of odd jobs for PcWorld & curry's so waiting for the cheques to come from them, then i will be able to pay all my bills and spoil the truck a bit....

                          105 deg gets it on on trucks that I've fitted aux gauges to.
