  • starting and running problem, diesel 2.4 LN130

Since the cold where the Surf has stood I can't get it to start.
Sorry it does start, ticks over for a few seconds then as the revs mount it cuts out.

I did have a similar problem in November but 3rd try got me going and no probs until this morning.

Can't find any loose wires or pipes or damaged wires or pipes, tank just under half full.

Starts each time, first time, then stalls, before I can press the accelerator

    Any ideas please.

What i would do first is to change the filters and make sure the fuel primer isn't oulling in air.Check the glowplugs but i doubt its them.
This is sounding like a 3.0l i bought in and it was exactly the same and wouldn't even run with easy start.I stripped the head off only to find the head gasket had blown between the number 1 and 2 pots.I couldn't be bothered with the truck so i broke it for spares instead.

        Well I never.

        Replaced filters, no go.
        Primed pump, no go.
        Bled primer pump, nowt.
Checked diesel outlet nowt. Blew in both pipes and it started no problem ran for 5 minutes perfectly.
        Went for cup of coffee.
Started it and it ran, then surged, then cut out.
Took out air filter and it started, ran for ages, at least 5 minutes until I switched it off.
Left it until late on then went to pick up wife, and problem back.Starts perfectly then surge and it cuts out
Cylinder head gasket ? But while it was running perfectly no unnatural heat rise, no water in the oil, no boiling in rad.

Mate who is electrician arrived to feed his horses, he used to have a Surf or three.
Goes through the explanation starts it up, it cuts out.

No problem he says, big smile on his face. Dives under dash, takes the alarm sensor off the keyring, tapes it to the underneath of the dash, starts it first time and ir goes.
Goes underneath the dash, takes the sensor out holds it, starts the car, moves away and alarm light comes on, car surges and stops.

        Fcking waste of a week

He used to fit car alarms in a past life and recognised the problem immediately. Star man
