Right, off we go. I think I've read most of the threads and post from this forum regarding this subject, however I would like to clarify one point. I assume that the waste gate/dump valve opening pressure is pre set and not adjustable other than by fitting washers/spacers, if this is the case then fitting an adjustable boost valve kit would achieve nowt by itself as you could never get more than the pre set boost. Any more ideas on this in case I missed a thread.

an adjustable boost controller works by bleeding air away from the wastegate so it dos'nt achieve it's presure until more boost is forced to it therefore raiseing your boost pressure at the inlet manifold, with a bleed screw you can probably get about 5 psi of extra boost depending on how far you open it,
or a cheap alternative and old skool method is a fish tank air screw and reduce the air getting to the waste gate and giving the same results.when the sh*t hits the fan greet the reaper with a smile

Got that, so has anyone tried fitting one of these kits, they seem to be quite cheap on ebay and should be less hit and miss than fitting washers (depending on gauge quality) I assume.
The thing is I've not had the Surf long, and 10 days after buying it the head went south (yes I was conned) so never really found out what it could do, I've since fitted a new head and am very pleased with the truck, needs tlc but no worries. It performs like my old LR 110 CSW 2.5TD, similar weight and output, but I've just sold my Cherokee 4.0L which I had "breathed on" to get about 200bhp, so the Surf seems very numb, I don't expect Cherokee performance from it but would like a bit more get up and go. Thought about the 3.0L but decided that other cost made it a non option.
Really must find out how to subscribe as this forum is excellent.

they are easy to fit takes about 5 mins todo but i would fit a boost gauge first so you don't run to much boost and risk damageing your engine, other ways to get better performance and mpg are to fit an intercooler and do the egr block off, i've done these on mine and it drives so much better it was unbelivablewhen the sh*t hits the fan greet the reaper with a smile

I'm assuming that you have a body lift? (for the Intercooler) What Intercooler did you use?“Do or do not... there is no try.”

if your just going for a manual boost controller there all pretty much the same the only main difference is some are for interior fit so 3 pipes needed but most just go under the bonnet so just need 2 pipes, i used a pajero 2.5td intercooler on mine which is a common one to fit and cheap i only paid £20 for it and yes you do need a bodylift to fit it above the rocker cover, but there are a few post on here where they've fitted them without a body liftwhen the sh*t hits the fan greet the reaper with a smile
