  • Fuel leak

    Hi guy's

Bit of an odd one this, started up my truck yesterday,
and let it warm up in the drive, went out about 5 mins
later, and noticed a small pool of fluid under the engine.
Imidiatley diver under to see where it's coming from, and
the under side of engine is blathered with diesel, but I can't
see where it's leaking. Stopped the engine, and had another
look round and it had stopped leaking, moved the truck back
a bit NO leak at all!! Went shopping, stop, start all day not a
drip. Same thing today leaks on start up but not after second
start. BTW no air con rad or sump guard fitted so I can see OK
    when under the engine.
    Any ideas? please. TIA.

    Gman.
If it aint broke, keep goin' till it is.

Very strange mate, can't be much though.

You doubley sure all the pipes & filter are tight, can't be a split cos it would be constant.
If its not broke don't fix it.

Mines the same. Think it's one of the seals on the back of the pump.

Going to try the ATF trick on mine and see if it helps, if not will prob be a pump off job.

        Thanks, for your replies guys,

Like you say Si a split pipe would leak all the time.

I do have some ATF knocking around in the garage,
and only half a tank of diesel, so, how much ATF do
        I put in? thanks SV

The truck is coming up for a belt change soon, so I
might wait till then. Will the pump have to be calibrated
        after it's been resealed?

        Gman.

            Thanks Stormy,

How muchish,? 1 litre to half a tank?
been thinking, (OUCH that hurts), I've
allways used redex but ran out 2 weeks
ago, I wonder if that's causing the prob?

yea that'll do or just fill the fuel filter right up and it'll give the fuel system a ruddy good clean out

                Hi Guys,

Well, I put some ATF in the tank in an effort to
stop the diesel leak, and it did'nt work,
Looks like I'll have to put up with it for a while or at
least untill it warms up a bit outside.

                Gman.

cost you £12 for the seals

                    Hi storm,

Does it need recalibrating if you remove the rear plate?
if not I might have a go, seals from Rough Trax?

                    Thanks Gman.

                        Thanks Hiroler,

I will keep that in mind, it may be easier to reseal a 2nd
pump and refit, then, reseal 1st pump and sell it on again.
What sort of price are you looking at?
