  • removing air con

Hi, want to remove the air con from the old girl as never use it, would I be alright just to de-gas it, take the pump out and remove the belt, then cut and crimp the pipes as close to the bulkhead as poss? If I then remove the fuze or replace the switch inside the cabin would this be all that I have to do?
I just want to check before I start ripping things out! cheers in advance

No need to crimp pipes, just remove them all. Will take about an hour to totally remove it. Remember the condenser and motors too, and the wee accumulator behind the grille.

Beware of earth straps If there.......if you do not reconnect it might not start

I don't think there are any. Another thing you can do is remove the, huge, Pump mounting bracket. 4 very tight (17mm socket iirc) bolts to get it off.

Part of that bracket needs to remain as it holds the adjuster for the alternator belts.

It holds the bearing to stop the air con belt whipping, but nothing to do with the alternator? I took mine off over a year ago.

Are you thinking of the bottom pulley bracket? If I recall correctly, the cast bracket behind the pump, (with the belt bearing and the alternator tensioner on), is one complete unit.

Nope, I'll take pics tomorrow. My alternator tensioner is still there, the AC Pump bracket is in my shed.

I'm intrigued now. Mind you, it might just be me that's just forgotten, but I'm sure mine was one complete lump behind the pump.

Ask GWH.......at some stage in his old trucks history it had been done ..leaving Vince ,Mark , Graham and I scratching our head as to why Graham's truck wouldn't start

                          removing air con

                          Hi Guys,
First thing i done was remove the air con as i have never used it and the rad was holed anyway. what i have noticed is improved air flow and better access to the alternater, even the turbo seems to be cooler. I thought the bracket was dual purpose so i hacked of the bit with the pulley on with my cutter(bodger) piece of cake to do though. Having read through the forum a few times it seems the japs put loads of crap on and we take it all of just love it,looking more like a tractor every day.

I hope I've kept the thing!
