OK, further update on this matter.

My truck went in for MOT on Friday and at the same time I got the garage to give it a going over and fit a brand new set of glow plugs.

Picked it up yesterday, so in effect this morning was its first totally cold start and with the new glow plugs, and it is back on song to what I expected. Waiting for the beep, fist turn of the key it fired and ran smoothly no fuss or bother.

So the conclusion to draw is that the glow plugs I got back in February haven't gone the distance. I don't know what brand they were, but they were from Milners. The new glow plugs are NGK ones purchased from Roughtrax.

I would be inclined to suggest that anyone else with similar problems should examine the plugs as it would appear that there are some out there that just don't last as long as would be expected.

          Hi Richard,

Will be in contact shortly to pick it up.

Now the truck is working reliably again I am happy to start dealing with the cosmetic bits that need work.

          Dale

2.4 and 3Ltr glow plugs are different. Same voltage but be careful the length may differ. I'll find the specs.

                    Follow up to above.

Do not interchange 2.4 and 3Ltr glow plugs. They are different dimensions.

Look at page 45 here -

                    GPT223 for the 2.4 and GPT225 for the 3Ltr.

Quick update, following a several days of pretty respectable cold weather for Cornwall, I can report that my truck is starting just fine following the fitting of the new NGK glowplugs.

Once the beep sounds, first turn of the key and it is firing so all seems to be consistently back to normal.

Evidently it would seem some glowplugs just don't last.
