  • Headlight Question

I have a 92 Hilux LN130, 2.4LTE. When I purchased the vehicle from an importer, the headlights were supposed to be all switched over to Canadian standards. I had an issue that required me to access my headlights and bulbs and what I have discovered is a bit of a mystery...

The importer jammed a light bulb into the headlight that does not seem to fit. The plastic locking ring that holds the bulb is broken and the bulb is loose. I recently had some electrical work done on the truck and the electrician was not sure what bulb it would take to make it all work. So here is the question...

Did my Hilux take a different bulb in Japan? Or does the truck actually take a 2004HB? I don't have the time to take it all apart to have another look at until I get to work and then I have no access to parts since I am way out of town. Does anyone know what North American bulb this vehicle takes since it would seem it is not a 4Runner bulb. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I can buy everything I need before I leave town and fix my crappy headlights!

I think you will find that you should have H4 bulbs in your truck.

There are several ways to improve your headlights, one of the best being to beef up the headlight loom and fit something like Osram Nightbreaker bulbs.

Some folk have fitted HID bulbs and looms, however they may not be legal over there.

      additional info

I was in a hurry to get out the door when I made the first post and failed to give a couple of details...

      1. The bulbs the 4Runner is supposed to take is a 9004. I believe I have a 9004 bulb in the light now, but the loom does not fit it. The locking ring seems to have broken when the previous owner tried to make it fit.

      2. To get power from the loom, 6" wiring extensions were attached to make the connections. I have a feeling that the bulbs I have in there are not the right length to get the proper reflection out of the headlight.

I am just trying to determine what parts I need to make it right. Did they use a different headlight in Japan than North America?

      Thanks

nope, lights themselves will be the same, just diffrent beam pattern?which should have been changed fgor your roads?,sounds like some has bodged a wrong bulb in on a lsant to try and get right beam pattern if that makes sense,as above bulbs are h4's,if they wont fit anymore then go to a scrap yard, take your old bulb holder and you should find similar toyotas of that age will have similar holders, but take one of yours to check it over, the solder into place and bingo hopefully, but once done i would check headlight beams are ok,i have3 a feeling your goin to end up needing 4runner headlights too

I have also decided to add two 85w driving lights and two 85w fog lights (piaa 520 AT and 520 Ion Crystal). I am just trying to get the headlights in properly, I am not to fussy on the beam pattern. I work on it all tonight. Wish me luck!
