  • 1993 Surf vibrating

    Hi everyone,
My 1993 2.4 auto surf vibrates under braking when driving forward and when I put it in reverse and sometimes when it is parked facing down hill when in neutral.
I have replaced the gearbox mounting bracket but no joy.

Please help as I am driving an Escort van and I prefer the surf .

    Thanks everyone.

whats the engine mounts like.also the front diff mounts
When its stationary and vibrating can you get underneath and check everything to see if anything is loose and check under the bonnet

I have spent weeks under there nothing seems to be loose. You just can't see much under the bonnet as there is no room.
When I rev the engine it rocks to the side but not excessive.
When I am outside the vehicle I can't hear or feel the vibration, I can only feel and hear it inside. It is a loud strong vibration.
If I have to brake sharply the vibration is severe when slowing and once I have stopped, when I put it in neutral it clears it.

I will check tommorow as off to work now.
I think the idle speed is a bit low.

I think the idle needs to be btween 750 and 850rpm so may may need to adjust that if it is low

Is the autobox fluid to the correct level and in good condition?

It is idling at about 650 to 700 rpm.
How do I increase the revs at tick over?
I think that I have found the cause of the vibration, it seems to be the exhaust vibrating against the bulk head. Atleast it doesn't seem to be something major.

                      The fluid id fine.
I think the cause of the vibration is the exhaust vabrating against the bulk head.So I will have to look at the rubber fixings.
                      Thanks again.

I think that I have cured it.
I adjusted one of the exhaust mounting brackets and put in a couple of plates and raised the gearbobox mounting bracket a couple of mm.
The engine idle speed is low I would appreciate it if you could tell me how to adjust it.

Thank you very much for your help you have been a great assistance.
