  • New guy saying hi.....

    Just bought my Surf. It's a 2.4 TD doesn't even look like it's been off road, it has now though!
    This is my first 4x4, should of done it ages ago, you can get mates/family involved too.
    I do have a ques about the auto box if someone can advise;
    When in D what postion does the 4x4 lever have to be in, hi or low or N.
    Also can i select 4x4 by pushing the button whilst i am on the move.
    Sorry thats two ques.
    Cheers .........muncher

    normal road driving should be in H or high. you can activate 4wd while on the move but top speed should be limited to around 50mph i think. in L or low box it automaticaly goes inyo 4wd so you dont have to press the button, you have to be stationary & in neutral to do this.
    finally welcome to the forum

      4wd can be selected whilst in H up to 100Kph (approx 62Mph)
      As Marky said you must be stopped to engage L
      Remember as your Surf does not have a centre diff you should only use 4wd when on a loose surface, snow, mud, sand etc. Using it when on a firm surface, especially tarmac etc may result in transmission wind-up which could easily cause damage.

        Thanks guys, i know it may have sounded like a daft ques. But i have always been into Supersports bikes 4x4 is something i wanted to try that mates/family can get involved in. I have a few minor things that i would like to do to the Surf, first one being adding a wave band expander to the radio. The hose to the air box has a split do you think the pick-up hose will fit?
        Cheers guys.....muncher

            The general concensus here is not to bother, a few have been happy but most (myself included) have found them to be useless unless your virtually on top of a transmitter, plus the radios tuning frequency steps may still be too far apart to pick all stations. Save your pennys to put towards a proper UK stereo.

              Update on the wave band expander. Bought a secound hand one from my local radio shack, £7.50. Fitting it was a b*****d, most of the dash had to be removed to get to the back of the radio. 1 1/2 hours later job done. It now picks up all the stations i like and so far has perfect reception. For the price thought i'd give it a go.....muncher

                Excellent, as long as your happy with it, coz you certainly can't argue with the price. Nice to hear they at least work for some.
