  • Coolant, oil leak and gearbox button !

    undefinedundefinedundefined Hi all,

HAd my surf for just over a year and all is okay - ish !

Its recently started to pour coolant into the expansion tank when hot and dribble it on the floor. Doesn`t over heat and the heaters are both hot. No probs starting and no signs of head gasket failure - I think its just the filler cap seals are not sealing !!

The engine has developed an oil leak under the inlet manifold. The oil is also around the manifold where it joints the head itself. The oil is not dripping on the floor it just coats the left side of the block. Any ideas ?? Is the oil feed up to head on this side of the block ??

One other point, the "power" transmission button does not do anything. Whats it supposed to do and is there a fuse in the circuit anywhere ??

Any help would be much appreciated guys. Thanks, Eddy.

i cant answer all your questions (i'll let someone with more first hand experience do that)... but with regards to the ECT switch...

the ECT PWR (Power) will change the shift maps for the auto box, usually the power maps allow it to use all or most of the rpm range of the engine before it will shift up, depending on the box it can also alter when the torque converter locks up (does the box in the surf have a lock-up TC?)

depending on the model of box there can be upto 3 options to control shift maps (Economy, Manual & Power), but they all do the same... change the point when it changes gear.
