  • LN130 Starting Problems?

I've got a 1993 2.4 td surf that just had new glow plugs fitted yesterday.

It takes time to fire up and when it does it runs rough until its been revved a few times, it also smokes quite abit aswell in the process.

As soon as i start to drive the smoke and roughness stops and the surf is fine.

It's starting to get on my nerves now, please help.

    The fuses are ok aswell.

If this has only happened since the glow plug were fitted, your glow plugs aren't working. Go out and double check you've wired them up properly.

Check the 80 amp glow plug fuse. it will blow if you have a short in the glow plug connection on manifold.

I told him that in the other thread, but he deleted his post for some reason. He says the fuse is OK.

This has been an issue since i fitted a new head, gasket, gearbox and transfer box.

Theres is power to the glow plugs i checked that with the multimeter. The glow plugs only power up for 3 seconds.

Any particular reason for editing your last post the way you did?

So you've not wired it up properly.

You have power at the glow plug rail for 3 seconds?

Can you hear the big relay on the nearside wing clicking on and off?

Do you get around 10.5 volts initially and the a secondary voltage of around 6.5 volts?

The big one on the wing makes a much louder click, clicks on with the ignition and off again at roughly the same time as the ignition on warning. Do you hear that one clicking?

The 80amp fuse is blown, you've wired them up wrong or your new glow plugs are knackered. Did you check the voltages as nev said? And while you're out there with the multi-meter, check the glow plug resistances to ground (individually).

I'm not sure its any of them to be honest to be quite frank when you talk about resistance etc you loose me.

Saying the plugs are fine what else could it be? Dodgy injector?

I suppose it could be, but the symptoms you describe point to Glow PLug failure.

I'll bow out now, as I can't see it being anything other than what I've said.

Say the plugs are fine if you wish, but it's still most likely a glowplug circuit fault. If you can't do the diagnostics suggested and post back usable results, there's no point in us playing guessing games regarding nonexistent faults.

If you don't know how to check what has been suggested, search for the relevant info or take it to someone who can check it properly.
