  • Blown Head Gasket

    Problem:
So I was driving up a hill and overheated then stopped and waited for it to cool then continued on the flat. At this point the head blew and i lost compression and turned off. Looking at the engine I have oil everywhere so i assume i blew a seal? It has been sitting for 2 weeks now though and has not lost anymore oil though.
It had overheated once or twice before this, and after it happened it was driven for a few ks.

    Problems before this:
    Needed oil change.
Had a bit too much oil (just over full).
    Dirt in radiator.
Insufficient amounts of antifreeze in radiator.

What I need to know though is:
Would reasons for overheating and cracked head be whats listed above?
Will any 3L gasket fit as I am unsure of the year?
Where can I get any resources or how-tos for changing a deisel hilux.

Its a 2.8 3L engine with a 2.4 turbo, manifold, radiator etc. unknown year though the body is a 1990 and the engine is older than this I think

    Thanks for any help

seems like you have blown the HG if lost compression but like a lot of your country men if the head goes instead of fixing it you put a lexus V8 in instead

here is help a bit closer to home with step by step pics if you fancy fixing it yourself

or if you fancy to swap to lexus V8

Thanks. Also wondering if the oil seals do need changing is it easier to do that while changing the head or Does it not make a difference?
